My Biography
My name is Tory Layne Vetter, and I am 13 years old. I live with my mom and dad, my brother Mitch, my sister Tessa and my dog Teddy in Hilliard Ohio. We have a big yard with a trampoline and I try to jump on it every day. I first started in gymnastics when I was 4 in a little kid class. I was also a cheerleader for my brother’s football team right after that. It was fun, but what I liked the best were the cartwheels and splits we were allowed to do during the game to show our spirit. When my mom asked me if I wanted to cheer for basketball or take another a gymnastics class, I was so excited, I chose gymnastics!!

I started in the gymnastics classes at Universal, and quickly they put me on team. I trained level 4, but didn’t compete it, because I started in the middle of the season. The first year I competed was level 5, and I did pretty well, but I didn’t win very much. This was a good thing, because it made me try harder. I had some great teammates and gymnastics was so fun. One of the things I like the most about gymnastics then and now is my team. I love the girls I train and compete with. We are all friends and cheer each other on during meets, wanting everyone to do well.
During my level 5 season, I had been taking lots of dance classes and playing soccer on a select team, but found that I needed to concentrate on gymnastics, because I was running out of spare time, and gymnastics was what I wanted to do. Now that I’m an Optional, I like that I get to pick my own music and help choreograph my own personal floor and beam routines.
I had a pretty good level 9 season in 2015, but decided to stay level 9 for the 2016 season and work on upgrades like my double pike and other level 10 skills so I would be ready to compete level 10 in the 2017 season. My favorite event is beam. It is challenging but at the same time, it is fun for me!
I have hobbies outside of the gym. My family goes to the lake every year, and I have been water skiing and wake boarding since I was six years old, and I enjoy jet skiing. In the 6th grade, I started playing the clarinet, and have made it into the highest band in Middle school this year. I enjoy all kinds of art, working in clay, drawing, painting, and making designs in nail polish on my friend’s nails. My friends and I like to make up dance routines for the school talent show, and I like to be in the school plays. My favorite part was playing Molly in the musical Annie. I also really like to bake and would love to compete in Cupcake Wars if I ever got the chance.
As an 8th grader at Weaver Middle School, I am already taking a few high school classes this year, Spanish, Honors Science 9 and Geometry. I am working hard and doing well. It's fun to be in classes with kids who are trying hard too. Last year I took advanced and honors classes, and got straight A’s in 7th grade, receiving the All A Academic Recognition Award, as well as earning straight A’s the year before in the 6th grade. My older brother is studying Engineering at Ohio State, and my sister is smart too. I want to earn good grades myself, so I can get into a good college, compete as a D1 college gymnast, and study Physical Therapy. I would also like to coach gymnastics when I graduate college in the evenings or weekends after working during the day as a Physical Therapist.
